
LOS ANGELES – DreamWorks Animation announced another “Shrek” movie is in the works.
“Shrek 5″ is coming to theaters July 1, 2026, the production company announced on its Instagram.
Stars from the original cast will be returning, including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz who will portray their roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona.
The first film was released more than 20 years ago in May 2001.
The most recent installment, “Shrek Forever After,” came out in 2010. Several spinoffs, including 2022′s “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” have been released since.
In a June 24 interview with Collider, Murphy said he began working on ‘Shrek’ earlier this year.
“We started doing ‘Shrek’ four or five months ago. I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up,” he said.
He also said fans can expect a movie focusing on Donkey in the future.
