The cause of fitness instructor Richard Simmons’ passing has been revealed.

According to a statement released by his brother Lenny Simmons on Wednesday, his death was “accidental” and resulted from “complications from recent falls and heart disease.”

“The L.A. Coroner’s office called Richard Simmons’ brother Lenny this morning. Lenny was informed by the coroner that Richard’s death was unintentional and that heart problems and complications from recent falls were significant factors. Except for the prescription Richard had been prescribed, the toxicology report was negative. In a statement to People, Simmons’ spokesman Tom Estey said, “The family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss.”

At the age of 76, Simmons passed away at his Los Angeles home on Saturday, July 13, 2024. A day had passed since his birthday.

TMZ claims that on Friday, July 12, Simmons fell at home but chose not to go to the hospital. According to the outlet, he refused to spend his birthday at the hospital despite his housekeeper’s best efforts to persuade him to do so. His housekeeper discovered Simmons unconscious on the floor beside his bed on Saturday morning. No signs of foul play were reported by the authorities, and he was pronounced dead at the spot.

“I don’t want people to be sad about my brother,” After his brother’s loss, Lenny informed People. “I want them to remember him for the genuine joy and love he brought to people’s lives. He truly cared about people. He called, wrote and emailed thousands of people throughout his career to offer help. So don’t be sad. Celebrate his life.”
